CHF 20’000 for Magma Learning
FIT’s jury has chosen to support Magma Learning with a FIT Digital Grant of CHF 20’000. The EPFL-based start-up has developed a personalised learning platform using artificial intelligence.
Ari, the artificial tutor conceived by Magma Learning, combines two technologies developed in collaboration with the EPFL: a knowledge network, generated by automatic natural language processing, and a machine learning tool that enables to individually consolidate the learning to avoid forgetting.
The tool adapts to each user depending on their practice. The learning schedule is adjusted to one’s memorization abilities and the knowledge level can be visualized. The learning process is also optimised: faster and more efficient, it requires less effort. The tool is intended for students as well as professionals continuing education.
The Ari platform has already been implemented in several test locations (EPFL, EHL…) and has successfully met its audience (5000 users in 2019, including 500 in less than a month at the EPFL). Ari has also proved its technological efficiency: the users’ academic results have improved by 30%. The market of personalised learning is expanding; Magma Learning wishes to first consolidate its position within worldwide reference institutions and companies before targeting individual users directly.
Being already well connected with international academic research in machine learning and in education sciences and with entrepreneurs in educational technologies, Magma Learning is a member of the Swiss EdTech Collider at the EPFL Innovation Park. The start-up also organised the AI & Education session at the EPFL during the Applied Machine Learning Days, with speakers coming from Seattle and Shanghai.
Thanks to the funds attributed by the FIT, Magma Learning plans on bringing the app from a prototype to a professional tool, integrating the app to existing professional systems and expanding its marketing. “The support of the FIT is essential to the development of Ari’s distribution in Switzerland, Europe and in the USA. One of our next objectives is to implement the platform in five prestigious universities”, explained Maxime Gabella, CEO of Magma Learning, after the FIT jury session.
